Re: terrible gas mileage

This past summer I recall my gas mileage improving much better after my EGR valve swap, try that IF you have any SES lights or codes stored.

I also noticed a tiny decrease in overall MPG myself, turned out to be tire pressures were not equal all around. Colder temperatures will reveal your true tire pressures when you check in the morning. Best to check tires when cold overnight.

We can expect more topics such as this as fuel refineries will distribute winter fuel blends across the nation and charge us higher for that kind of quality fuel. Winter blends may drop your MPG.

    My .02 cents

instead of unplugging the computer just unhook the batter. All that does is reset the computer and it relearns everything. It probably worked for you because your tuning was off perhaps... but I don't think thats gonna fix his problem.

I'd say look at the cat, I've seen them so bad the car wouldn't get up to 55...
Depending on where you live you may be able to get a backwoods 'test pipe' you can put on to check if it's the cat. A "test pipe" is just a blank piece of pipe with the fittings pre-welded on it to bolt in place of your cat. If it fixes it it is up to you what you do then...

Oh, the ticking noise... only at idle? Maybe gets worse when the oil is hot? Is it better after a fresh oil change? Sounds like lifters ticking. Why? Because you have low oil pressure at idle if your bearings are worn. I don't really trust the OEM guages, they are just not real precise. Does that mean your engine is gone? Not really, I've seen engines that the oil pressure light would come on at every red light go and run 2-3 yrs longer.

              Re: terrible gas mileage

I had the same ticking problem

I didn't let it continue long enough to see if it effected my gas mileage, but it was an easy fix, I just bought a thing of Marvel magical additive or something like that, it comes in a red 1 quart bottle for like 7 dollars at any auto store

follow the dirrections for cleanning the internal engine, If I remember right you add it to the oil and run it for like 100 miles then change the oil

it cleared the ticking right up

the ticking was probably caused by a piece of carbon build up making a lifter stick, once you accelerate the lifter is under enough force so that it won't stick, seafoaming could have even knocked the carbon lose from somewhere else and it just made its way to the lifter
K&N air filter, Whisper air lid, magnaflow LT1 cat back, and magnaflow high flow cat, pacesetter headers, silverstars

more to come soon
but for now im out of money
