  • Anti-Freeze, weird..

My cars been running extremely hot for the past few weeks so I checked my radiator and sure enough there was nothing in there. At the current time my heat was not working on my car and I had a SES code for an EVAP problem. So anyways I fill it up, and both the SES light turn off and my heat starts working. Why is that? Does it have anything to do with each other? The heat isn't real hot and sometimes fluctuates between cold and hot air so I know somethings still wrong with it. But I was surprised that the code was thrown and the heat worked a little bit at least...could this be a bad thermostat causing this problem?

Also, now I am hearing an annoying ticking sound under the hood... any ideas?

the heat runs off of your antifreeze... it runs through a heater core which is like a small radiator and the blower blows the warm air into your car... without antifreeze your heat wont work... you could have done damage though to your engine if its been hot for a long time... your heat going from hot in cold could be air in the system?... but you may hae done other damage rnning without antifreeze ... also check your oil... makes you wonder where your antifreeze went..

Checked the oil, everything looked good. I was actually a slight bit low so I put a quart in and everything looks good. The car still feels like its driving the same aside from my torque converter getting ready to go out, and it just has that slight ticking noise. Looks like the turbo build will have to wait til spring -_-

Well from what I've been reading if its a valve spring or lifter I might as well get new ones all around. I just have absolutely no clue about each part and what it does to my engine. Like I've mentioned before I'm going to be installing a FFF Turbo kit on my 105k engine but I'm not sure now that I have this slight ticking sound...can I get some info about valve springs and lifters etc.? Cam and rockers have to do with that too right? Also any other ideas as to what the ticking could be? Maybe the water pump pulley? What about the main Belt? Its cracking pretty bad...

Hello Injected413, I may know what's the "ticking" noise you talk about.
Do you only have this noise when the engine is cold ?
If so, try (when engine cold) to open the air intake, the noise should be very clear.
              It's more like "gargouilli" actually.
A friend of mine told me it's the water pump that makes that noise because there isn't enough coolant.

              Hope it helps.

if its either of them, you might as well save alot of time and money and drop another engine in there.

Well I filled the coolant and the noise went away! Hurray! Kristen don't scare the bajeesus out of me like that again.. EVER. I think I might pick up another 3800 engine and put a cam in it since my cars already at 106k miles. Anyone selling a complete <50k mile engine? Let me know!

It seems to be a water pump problem or something like that, like many other guys have on this forum. No need to get a new engine.
