• Clutch sensor.

The sensor that tells the pcm that the clutch is in and it's ok to start. Where is it?

Under your dashboard, mounted on the firewall, behind the clutch pedal bar. its a black box, about 2" long, 3/4" tall, and 1 1/2" deep. has two wires leading into it. To take it off, just slide it up. Its mounted using keyholes.

to bypass it, make a 'u' shaped connection out of some speaker wire or such, and connect the terminals of the plug that goes into the switch box. this is a good way to test to see if it is bad.

      Yep what he said...

If you get under the dash, you can see it, its just a box with a push button on it that is depressed when the clutch is in.

I was late for work when mine decided to take a dump, I bypassed it with a paperclip to get ot work, then picked up a new one on the way home, had to stop at 2 stores though, not too common of a part.

I got under there and looked - I just didn't know exactly what to look for and it wasn't obvious. I'll crawl back under there soon, though, thanks for the quick replies!

Just look all along the firewall, in the area immediately behind the clutch pedal. i know its higher up. Easiest way i took mine off was to recline the seat all the way, lay in there face up and grab the thing. sorta like your feet are in the trunk.

          good luck.

haha I do the same thing, done it on all my Camaros and I am 6'5"

Easiest way to find it. start at the bottom of the clutch pedal and follow it up and look for a box style push button behind the actual pedal.

Any downside to just removing it and bypassing it, permanently? other then you can start your car without hitting the clutch.

None that I can think of... other then it being bypassed, maybe it you bypass it ghetto style...

is there really a gain to bypass it?

ever read the guy with the '01 Cobra with a bypassed clutch switch and remote starter? He went to start it in a parking lot, left it in gear, the start ran the car forward it went up the curb and fell down on top of the hood of the car in front of it.

Actually the reason I want to bypass it is for a remote start. Only reason I consider this safe is I have never in the 4 yrs of owning my car left it in gear lol.

Do you really need it? I mean you can do it but is it worth it, it only takes one mistake to cause a couple thousand in bills.

well the only thing I'm worried about isn't me making the mistake if you get what i'm saying.

Btw.. if you were actually an intelligent driver and used the ebrake wouldn't the car just stall out even if it was in gear?

thing is its not the motor running its the starter motor.

They have been known to be powerful, I have seen a kid drive his truck around the parking lot at a sonic's twice, running off his battery and starter motor. They have alot of torque.

Trick is you hit the button and it cranks the motor till the car starts...

well like i said i've never put the car in gear and left it. However I would be slightly afraid of say a mechanic doing it lol.
