• '98 Camaro newbie questions

    http://www.employeesmustwashhands.com/misc/48834JR.jpg

I just picked it up. '98 Camaro, dark blue, AT4, t-tops, all power, 59,000 miles.

    1) The ashtray lid is busted, what's the cheapest place to get a replacement?

    2) How can I keep my t-tops leakproof for the next 5 years?

    3) What's the cheapest place to find a factory CD deck that will plug right in? (mine has a non-monsoon tape deck)

    4) What's the average fuel mileage for a 3.8l Auto?

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the first one, maybe a junk yard nearby.

The second one about t-tops. Trade me cars, then you won't have to worry about leaky t-tops (I have a coupe) ;) :D

About gas mileage. Mine was around 20 mpg, but that was in mainly stop and go traffic with the occassional WOT run to 60 mph. But its gotten much better with the Whisper Lid, I don't know where its at now but I can definately tell a difference.

Congratulations on the new car. SO far, my '98 been very reliable, had to change the alternator in it during the year I've owned it so far. (72k miles ),

          2. - You can get a silicone application that will keep the rubber seals fresh. I keep mine pretty clean & glossy with meguire's trim detailer.

          3. - Wow, I gave mine away about a month after getting the car. For the amount of effort of installing an aftermarket cd player, I think it's well worth it for the addtional power & quality

I agree that an aftermarket one would be a better quality unit, but i'm getting a good warranty from the dealer. If the factory CD deck breaks, I can just have them replace it. That and I like when everything looks uniform inside the car.

              FYI

Post only one question at a time, and put it in the correct Forum. These questions should have been asked in other Forums, not all in General Tech.

For the T-tops you can do the rubber sealing applications. You could also stiffen you car's suspension. Adding a strut tower brace and/or panhard rods could help in this area. I have 59K on my 99 w/T-tops and it's still 100% sealed...knock on wood! BTW I'm using the strut tower brace right now. It also helps in cornering and helps eliminate body roll.
