  • budget, what to buy?

I've got around $1500 I'm looking to spend on performance mods. What I've come up with so far is basically headers, cai, and 3.73 gears. I already have a flowmaster muffler I'm going to put on. What else would you guys suggest I do? I'm not looking for a race car, but I'd like to get it as quick as I can for the given amount.

Thats the modification sticky at the top of this forum.. Since your new, be sure to go through the different forums and look at those, their very helpful.

Also, do you have just the muffler? I would suggest doing a full catback system because the muffler alone won't help very much other than for sound.

Definately start off with the CAI, then if you don't have a full catback system and it's just the muffler, do that next. And then when that is said and done, move onto the headers and/or the gears. Unless you get ripped off somewhere along the line you should be able to purchase all of that for $1500 or under. That is, depending if you install this yourself or bring it to a shop to have done.

if you do headers make sure to get a high flow cat too. and if you do gears make sure to get a posi. you don't want to regret not doing this stuff later on. my vote goes for nitrous!

Kristen is right, make sure to get posi on the same time you get the gears, or you will definately regret it later on down the road. Same goes for the high flow cat with the headers as well.

As for the nitrous, don't listen to her :P She just has a disease called fanboyism with nitrous You can get it later on down the road, but start off with these basic things before going for the giggle juice.

            aluminum driveshaft
            CAI
            catback exhaust
            gears/lsd
            headers
            cat. conv.

Should be doable for under 1500

Thats a good setup, also sets him up for a little nitrous shot down the road.

I may be ignorant, but what is the point of the aluminum driveshaft? Just to lighten the car and reduce the rotating mass?

correct, the two piece stocker on 98 and older cars is a heavy boat anchor. Switching to a ls1 alum. driveshaft removes weight and rotating mass, which in turn puts more power to the ground

You are quite correct. It is a serious improvement over the 4th gen f-bodies and an all around great upgrade.

Catco High Flow cat from summit - 55$ - install- (have u or shop put it on during catback install)

Taylor Pro wires or 8.5 msd wires- 60 $ install- DIY- FREE
NGK platinum spark plugs 18 $ for 6 install - DIY- FREE

is your car a 3.4? if it is add in the underdrive pulley's for about 65 $

then you can get headers, gaskets, bolts, and get raped on labor unless u wanna do them yourself but for around 850$ i think this is a good start

it's in the eyes of the beholder. i did it....didn't see much if anything from it. its alot lighter...but then again i had a 1 piece steel to start with. at maxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx you mightttttttttttttt see .2 off. so that would be a mod for later down the line. not yet(unless you have a 2 piece) then i could maybeeeeee see doing it now
