I broke the oil filler plastic elbow POS. I'm pretty sure a tiny *** piece fell down into the valve cover. I'm soo happy this happened btw. Yeah since I've not ever taken either of the valve covers off before.. uhm is there anything I need to know when taking it off? It looks like it just comes right out. I don't even know why I'm asking this.. I think I know better.. ugh im just being careful.

Re: Yeah, I did a dumb thing.
haha, lets qualify that. It will come right off once you get to it. on the 3.8, the rear engine bracket has to be removed to get to the rear bolts.
its just about the worst job you can get stuck doing. there are two bolts connecting the bracket to the block/head, whatever it connects to. you have to get the top bolt off, slip off the trans dipstick tube, and get the second bolt off, which is on there way too tight to use a short stubby open ended wrench. i actually had to set the wrench on a bolt (with the car jacked up quite a bit), get a long piece of wood and a hammer and hit the end of the wrench till the bolt broke loose. it took me forever to get that stupid thing off.once you get it off, dont put it back on too tight so next time wont be as bad.
on a side note, ive heard rumors of people bending it out of the way with a broom handle or something similar, but that just seems to me like you're asking to break something else. your call.Last edited by Loochy88; 11-28-2007, 06:37 PM.

Re: Yeah, I did a dumb thing.
Ya know, i thought it'd be a little harder to break that thing too.
And loochy, so you're saying it just takes a lil common sense. That's good. I have some of that. omg well maybe not so much. I wouldn't be asking this question now if I did. heh thanks.

^^
I know the feeling. My buddies stealth has the worse engine bay known to man and we had to take off all these engine support brackets and stuff to get the heads off. some took 7+ hours to get off because we had to remove just about everything around it to get to them before we could even think about taking the head off..

Re: Yeah, I did a dumb thing.
Honestly, there was little pressure used.. i have no clue.. no damn clue. It's from a 98 3.8 eh like 77k miles on it... Who the hell knows. I sure don't. It had to have had a fracture in it already. So maybe it was a good thing that I broke it while it was parked and didn't lose it on the road. I gotta go dig out the plastic piece now though so.. yeah fun.
