  • Did I screw up my car? Help!

EDIT: UPDATE: The car is mostly fixed now, but... the idle is a tad low (roughly 600-650 rpms). The car vibrates a bit, and there is also a lot of clicking. Above 1k rpms there are no problems. Any ideas?

I took my throttle body off yesterday to clean it. I disassembled it and cleaned it, then I put it back together, put it on the car, and hooked everything back up.

Now, when I start the car, it revs to around 2500, unless I turn on the AC. Then, it revs to only about 2000. This makes me think its the IAC. So, I got a new IAC and it doesn't make a difference. In fact, if I unplug the IAC while the car is on, it doesn't do anything. Unplugging the MAF causes the car to barely run at all and unplugging the TPS causes my rpms to jump up to like 3500, so I don't think it is those. What's going on?

    Help!

by finding the vacuum leak. Your the one that did the work so only you will know what you did wrong. You either broke the gasket or missed something putting it together.

they only sell them at the dealers.

At the dealer's, it is order only. I can't wait five days, this is my only car.

try another dealer. Most keep them in stock. When I needed one I orderd 3 for spares.

Update- the new gasket did not help the problem.

To reiterate- The car idles at 2k with the ac off, 1500 with the ac on. When I tap the gas pedal, the rpms climb to 3k and stay there for two or three seconds before dropping slowly.

I don't know what to tell you, that exact thing happened to me, but that's because I put the gasket on wrong. I put it back on the right way and it worked. By the way, I got my gaskets at the auto store, by felpro, and they worked fine.

Are you sure the cabels are hooked back in the right place? There is also a little screw behind the lever of the throttle body (the one that you can pull to make accelerate), if you messed with that, that may be causing the problem. If you screwed it back in too much and the screw is protruding too much, it may be pushing the lever up slightly.

The cables are hooked up right I think. The accelerator pedal seems to work fine as far as opening and closing the throttle when the car is off. I didn't mess with those little screws.

Also, the gasket I made looks exactly like the felpro one (I found a picture online). I am 100% sure it is on right because I cut the holes with an exacto while the gasket was on the TB, so I know they line up exactly.

Sounds like you screwed up your Throttle position sensor. Or have it in backwards.

How would I make sure my TPS is on correctly?

Also, I just found out that the bottom part of the MAF Sensor (the little tiny plastic cap that makes the sensor area a circular hole) is broken. Could that be my problem? Also, is there any place I can get that tiny cap without buying a whole new MAF?

                              Thanks to all contributors.
