Ever since I bought my car, I thought something was funny, because the VIN doesn't come up correctly. When I put it through a VIN decoder (like the one found on camarosource.ca) it comes up as a 97 3.8 Camaro, and all that. BUT! When I take it to a dealer, they say it's not a valid VIN; when I went to get a PCM from PCM4Less, they said it wasn't a valid VIN; when when I had it looked up for RPO codes, it came up as not a valid VIN. Thing is, scanners read it just fine, the decoders show that it's valid, the stamped badge in the windshield has the same VIN, and so on. I just read in the technical database, the VIN decoding write-up, and everything checks out, even my "Check Digit". In my VIN, it's a 6, and according to the write up, it should be an 6. Any suggestions/other ways to find the history of the car and find the real VIN besides a VIN look-up? All my RPO codes have been ripped off the door, which is why I even began looking it up.

    97 3.8L V6 M5 Hard-Top Camaro; Power everything, non-monsoon radio. As far as I know, atleast

i have run into a problem like this before with an s-10, some of the vins for 97 were lost out of the gm computer. i can use your vin in my epc but not in the gm master online.

Really? I had someone try running my VIN in the GM master online, and they said it came back as a 97 Blazer?!? I just really wanted my RPO codes just so I know what all my car came with, but I've pretty much replaced it all by now so it doesn't matter. But still, I'd like to know more about my car and it kills me that it doesn't come up as a legitimate VIN, making me believe something has happened to it in it's past.
