gas odor

lately when i fill the gas tank to full,i seem to smell gas fumes. does anybody have any thoughts on this.

Yeah, mine did the same thing once. There is a plastic plug on the outside of the gas tank, driver's side, above the left axle. It's called a "Fuel Tank Vent Valve". It allows fumes to exit the gas tank. The part costs around $10 from GM, and takes a few minutes to install. You just need to jack the rear of the car up and look in the area I listed. The plastic piece is white in color, and fits on the end of the vapor hose.

Since they are mounted on the outside of the body where dirt and grime flies around, they become clogged easily. Therefore they do not allow the vapors to exit the tank properly (I think). All I know is that I replaced mine, and the gasoline odor went away.

Depends on where you smell it.. could be a cracked fuel line, check them. How's your gas mileage? did it go down?
