while eating at mcdonalds today i looked out towards my car and saw what looked like a wire hanging near my exhaust pipe. (driver side) When i went out to check i found it was weather stripping. I messed with it and eventually pulled it out and found what looks to be a vent attached to it. From what i know the heat/cooling vents exit before the firewall so i ruled that out. Does anyone know what this is or if its important enough to worth worrying about? Normally i would disregard this but the weatherstripping around it makes me think that its something that should be sealed.
    thnx in advance

I snapped a few pics from my camera phone..they should be below

My Grand Am had that. I don't know what it is for since it went into my trunk. I am curious about this as well.

Cabin air filter vent thing, or something like that. That's what I think it is. It should come out right by your spare tire, IIRC, so it could have been hanging by your exhaust tip.

was on the driver side ..ie the opposite side the spare is on.

however "cabin filter" gives me a place to start ;)

Its on the dr side over by where the cd changer is. i believe lower down. Its a vent. what it does is allow air in to even out pressure so you can open and close your doors

yes, it goes on the driver side. Take the panel out of the hatch on the driver side, and take the carpet out from under there. It's at the bottom of where the spare goes except on the drivers side.

It is located on the driver side, behind the rear bumper cover. It is a vent to provide for air flow-through inside the car.

I think it's the other way around though, it's meant to let air out. The idea being your climate control system is letting air in, and this thing lets air out.
