      Same here.

I have never liked airbags. They are just a government mandate to "protect me" because people are too stupid to use seat belts. Thank the insurance industry lobby.

Actually if you don't wear a seatbelt the airbag stands a greater chance of killing you. (back in the 70's they were meant to act alone, but not nowadays) The seatbelt is meant to keep your body restrained, however your head is not prevented from jerking forward and hitting the wheel. The airbag provides a relatively softer impact point for your face vs. the cold rolled 3/4" steel bar inside your wheel (we cut them open at the FD to see how big it was :D.)

          I'll make this short:

          Seatbelt and airbag - 50/50 broken nose/fingers
Seatbelt alone - Severe neck laceration, broken nose 80/20, skull fracture 20/80
Airbag alone - meat wagon 85/15, fractured skull 90/10, bleed out 50/50 (glass noose:( )

Airbags are supplemental only, if you aren't wearing a seatbelt you will probably be too close when it fires and they fire at about 225mph. So if you were traveling forward at 60mph and you hit a phone poll, the total negative acceleration your body would feel is much greater if the airbag hits you while deploying(instead of you hitting it after it deployed). e.g. your kidneys will look like they went through a Ronco infomercial.
