  • power steering pump going bad or something else

ok well i noticed this after i had my new zr1 put on and the front end aligned and the tires balanced, my car will drift like sometimes bad it changes sides not one particular side and when i turn right at about 50 - 70 i have a light vibration, is it power steering, bad alignment, bad balancing??

its not power steering.. my brothers camaro does that too.. it always drifts to the right.. cause it got hit around the right front wheel before we got it.. he had it realigned and everything and it never helped.. had everything done he could have and it never helped.. i dunno if thats what it is in this case.. but it coulda been hit there before u bought it if u got it used?

Just out of curiosity... these new wheels you put on the car are they wider than your stock wheels? I put a set of 17" Firehawks w/275's on my car and it would pull to either side as well at times but it's only because the wider wheel hugs the road better and as a result the wear in the road can cause the car to pull. I thought I had a bad alignment too until I asked some of my friends if they're cars were like it too. Bottom line you got to be a little heavy on the steering wheel with wider tires. As for the vibration that's sounds like something else probably from the hit.

I'd seriously re-evaluate the rotor issue. Warped rotors will normally only give you a vibration if you apply the brakes. Front rotors when they warp will make the steering wheel vibrate when you come to a stop. If the rotors are so warped that they cause the car to vibrate simply while moving you'd DEFINITELY notice it during braking. I'd be surprised if that kind of warpage was even fixable by machining not to mention that it would not just vibrate but jerk the wheel when you applied the brakes. Turning the wheels will not cause the rotors to vibrate more than going straight because the rotors and calipers all turn with the wheels. If the rotors are hitting something when they turn then that needs to be looked into but vibration during turning has nothing to do with rotors. If the shop told you this I'd take the car somewhere else.

I agree, most likely the balance on one or more of the new wheels, is wrong.
