Break in period?

Well when I got my new RS, the guy at the dealer said there was no break in required. But I still went easy on it for about 3,000 miles. Dogged it a little after that to see what it would do but now has 5k and I've been going pretty easy on it lately. Do you guys agree with them that there is no break in required?

the owners manual says something about a 500 mile or so break in period, but i wouldn't worry about it. you went way past that, so it's cool.

when I first got my car I took out the owners manual and read it cover to cover that night LOL

I think there should be a break in period. You need to give the engine some time to get all the seals and rings to seat properly. I think 500 miles is plenty.

At 500 miles i changed the oil.
At 1000 miles i started to drive faster. (over 50)
At 1500 i changed the oil again.
At 3000 miles i stopped at a redlight and saw what she could do.

The owners manual says keep it at 55 mph or less for the first 500 miles. You're supposed to vary your speed too. I got to break in the Camaro on I5 down in Southern California.

It's a bit of a shock when you're going 60-65 mph and a car flies by you going over 100 mph on your right where the trucks stay. [img]graemlins/omg.gif[/img]
