  • Engine Control...

Hey, I have a 3.8 96 auto, and when I am gunning it or giving it some gas, I seem to get a stutter. It's not very smooth and it seems to not want to pick up speed very quickly. Is this a fuel sensor problem? Transmission? or do u need more details? I would appreciate it...thanks a lot.

does it feel like it bogs down for a second, then takes off, or does it stutter a couple of times or more?
it could be any number of things, the simplest prolly being plugs and wires. chekc those if you haven't yet. how long since you changed the fuel filter? air filter? cleaned the injectors?

check those plugs and wires and get your hands on some seafoam (do a search you'll find tons of info in here about it) and run that through the engine, then change the fuel filter. if that doesn't fix it, you've prolly got a sensor problem somewhere, but not likely as that "should" set off an ses code.
you can\'t get off if you don\'t get on

Your ignition coils may be getting weak as well.

I do have my check engine light on. It stutters and then takes off and then might stutter some more. I recently changed the plugs (8,000 miles ago). Yeah on warmer days it doesn't do it as bad. It usually runs pretty smooth on a nice day. I guess I could check my air filter...thanks again

You probably won't get an SES from a dirty air filter, its probably a sensor
