  • oil smells like gas???

well I am trying to pin point where my Antifreeze is going, so I decided to drain a little oil from the pan.. Water sits on bottom, oil floats right.. well I drained about 1/2 cup and it looks like liquid chocolate.

So there is NO Light Tan Moca color to it, but it also doesnt look like Natural oil. Now I havent done an oil change I know I know, since I have bought it, However, it literally looks like Choco syrup. (forgive the spelling its late).

However, There is a slight Gasoline smell to it.... Now being a Petro tech from the army, I have never ran into this before.

How would the oil smell like fuel??? I am also thinking that if I Do have some fuel getting into my oil, it would explain the color of it... it looks like oil when a swirl it around in the cup, but its not clear. It isnt black. its a very dark brown color, non transparent and smells slightly like gasoline.

    Any suggestions?
And my antifreeze is still going somewhere...

I have heard that if you have a leaky injector, that some gas can slip past the rings when the engine is shut down and into the oil, but burns off on next start up when the engine gets warm and vaporizes the gas. Not sure how that´s connected to the oil looking like cocoa. Last time I saw water in gas, it did look like sludge. (Don´t let you´re freinds drive through puddles with a cold air intake 6 inches above the street, thank God it was a POS Toyota and not a Camaro!)

im pretty sure the water will be on top since the oil is thicker than the water

I think you have a blown head gasket. Its hard for me to think of how you can get gasoline in your oil pan. Unless you have a flooded cylinder and a huge ring leak. Even still, the car would run like complete ***.

Losing antifreeze and your oil looking like chocolate, I think its a small internal head gasket leak.

thats what Im starting to think.... The car runs GREAT!. power is there, I can still spin the tires on dry pavement. tho I havent done it recently. The oil hasnt been changed in forever, so I changed it lastnight... I dont smell fuel in it right now, but all day I have noticed a white steam coming from the exhaust pipes... So my money is going on the head gaskets... So its upper and lower intake gaskets and head gaskets.. Yeah me.. Im going to have some fin here shortly..

Used oil always has a little bit of a gasoline smell, but not excessive, since there is always some blowby while the engine is running. But of course that wouldn't explain your antifreeze problem. But if you used the same oil for a longer-then-normal amount of time, it may smell even more.

Ya, when it blows internally it can leak coolant into the oil, coolant into the head, oil into the head, etc. It all depends on where its blown. If your getting white smoke from the tailpipe (even when the car is warm) you may have a blown gasket. Its hard to pinpoint one of those because you can't pressure check it if you still have compression.

That probably means that it's running too rich. Black smoke is usually an overly-rich mixture, and that would also explain why you have gas-smelling oil
