  • Calling out UCF area 3.8L Owners

    I've got somethin goin on with my car, and it wont start. I'm not much of a mechanic at all, i've been trying to change the spark plugs and i can only get two out. This all happened after i seafoamed.

    well how did you go about using seafoam?
    96 Camaro M5.       Poured it into the brake booster line and sprayed it into the TB.

          I have never done the plugs on a non-tubular manifold 3.8L... so not sure I can help, but I have on a 3.4L and a tubular manifold 3.8L...

          Try putting the plugs back in and cranking it now...

          The seafoam technically "flooded" the motor(too much fuel in it for it to spark) Jsut let it sit and evaporate a little then try it again later you probably do not have to do anything with your plugs, I highly doubt you fouled any of them...

          As for Orlando area people there really are not that many of us that are on teh boards all the time.

            I took out a few of the plugs, cleaned em up and put them back in. Got nothin.

            Its been sitting for a few days, still wont start.

            I guess i'll just take it to a mechanic then...

              What exactly happened...


              you seafoamed it then car would not start after you did that?

              Just not crank, or it woudl crank and not turnover?

              Any problems before this?

                No problems before this, just an old engine.

                I seafoamed and now it wont turn over. like you hear it start to crank, but it stops almost instantly. its like its congested or stuck or something.

                    If the lights don't come on inside the car its the battery. If not it might be the starter in which case if its a manual you can try to push it and pop the clutch. Otherwise I really do not know...

                      The lights come on, radio comes on, its been charged and we attempted to jump start it. also attempted to push start it, tires just skid. I think the engines just congested or something, im going to try and manually crank it.

                        The starter does actually make a noise to turn just doesn't turn enough to crank the motor?

                        IF it does, try cleaning of the batt terminals and jumping it again... are you using a good set or crappy set of cables, if its a crappy set let the good car, run for like 5 min. before you try and crank the motor on the bad car. At an autocross they couldn't get this miata to start with 2 sets of cables, tried mine and it started instantly(I had lots of batt problems in my old car, so I splurged for a nice set of cables) It is possible to have power for everything in the car but not enough juice to crank the car.

                        If its not even cranking at all. Like the starter cannot move and you tried the above, Double check if you have any alarm that disables the ignition(unlikely) also unhook the clutch safety switch, its under the clutch pedal, and put a paperclip or wire in it to jump the signal just incase the switch went bad(I had one go out on me, makes the car think you don't have the clutch in) LAstly could be ignition lock cylinder(unlikely) but that is hard to diagnose and ~$350 to fix dealer only, so we will try the easy stuff first.

                        All that stuff doesn't work, try to pull the plugs, and manually crank it with a wrench or breaker bar on the crank. If for some reason there is an excessive liquid in your motor it will force it out by rotating it and not cause any damage.

                          YES! I didnt touch the car for like half a week and i picked up a job to pay for the bill because i was going to take it too a mechanic. I went outside last night to show a friend the problem and he was gunna help me manually crank it. I went to start it to let him hear what it does and i started right up! No problem at all, and nothing changed at all, just let it sit for like half a week. Smoke went everywhere for at least 10 minutes, it was great. Im still getting a few problems, check guages light came on, but i'll work all that out.

                            Sweet I think you just flooded it with sea foam!


                            run it for a little bit, and take it to to a advance auto or Autozone to get the SES scanned for free...

                            BTW, Autozone on Coloniol(50) and Rouse is open 24 hours, so you can get it by just about anytime. (its a light or two down from superwalmart if you are heading downtown from alafaya)

                              Yeah i know the place you're talking about.

                              I've never gotten an SES light, but there is the Check Guages light, is that the same thing?

                              If not, is there a fuse somewhere for the SES light? I posted a thread about this before but i never got any replies.
