Re: Tension Pully
I have the same problem I have actually ripped apart about 4 belts and my belt slips off during the rain also. Its easy to put back on there is a diagram inside your hood area next to the fuse boxes but I think the tension pully needs tightened on yours and mines

Originally posted by greasemonkeyIts spring loaded, you need a new one. You can probably order one at an auto parts store. Just tell them you need the tensioner assembly (not just the pulley).

Re: Tension Pully
how does the pulley sound when the belt is off, does it sound like the bearing is bad?

Re: Tension Pully
You can buy them at Advance Auto Parts for $65 or so. I just bought one the other day :D. The assembly is held on by 4 bolts. 2 in the middle, towards the passenger's side, one on the bottom, passenger's side, and one going through the very top, holding the alternator onto the assembly. First you take off the belt. Then, pull the bolts off (13mm and 10mm heads, IIRC) and disconnect the two coolant lines, and the assembly will pull right off. Be careful though. There is a plastic 90* coolant elbow going from the assembly into the intake manifold. It usually breaks upon tensioner assembly removal, and my new tensioner came with a new one :D. To put it back on, slide that plastic elbow into the assembly. Put all the O-Ring seals into place, and line everything up. Then gently wiggle it as you push it towards the block, making sure not to break that elbow. Once it's on there pretty good (doesn't have to be entirely on there, the bolts can do a lot of the hard pulling against the seals. Just make sure the elbow is aligned and going in properly), put the bolts back in and tighten them down. Reconnect the coolant lines, and make sure they seal up good. Then grab a wrench for the tensioner pulley (18mm, IIRC) and then twist it away from the block. Slide the belt on and let go.
This is for the 3.8, BTW. Not too sure about the 3.4, but assume it wouldn't be much different.Last edited by RadRacer; 12-27-2007, 12:52 AM.~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~
