i get a tick coming from my motor every time i start my car and it pretty loud but like maybe a min later it will just go away. do lifter ticks just go away like that?

yes, because oil finally worked its way up into the valve cover

start your car when its warm, and i bet it doesnt tick, because the oil is thin.

it just means you have loose rockers and its not holding enough pressure on the hydraulic lifters. you need to tighten them

How do you go about doing that? I noticed my 3.8 does that after it has been running for a whole. I thought it was leak in the headers, but I couldn't find anything.

May be the water pump about to go, I know my friend car ticked for a while but when the pump let go it stopped.

Original GM water pump let go at 208K miles
