  • 3.4 to 3.8?

I'm researching snd thinking about doing a 3.4 to a 3.8 motor swap. I just want to un wimpitize my car a little. I can't afford a lt1, and evin though the labor is the same, I am more concerned with the money side of it. I just want to spend a couple hundred dollers to make my car at least faster than the speed of piss. And I know down the line I can dump the money I would have spent on the lt1 and be just about as fast, if not faster. What can anyone tell me about the swap? What about useing a FWD motor? Thanks for the help.

Its best you wait to do the LT1 than drop a 3.8 in first to then swap it again trust me it will cost more than you think. Its just best to stick with the 3.4, save up and then get the powerplant you want later on it will save you time and money as well as stress.

you can not swap a 3.8 for a couple hundred, back to the drawing boards.

              well let's add up.

              3.8 block
              3.8 Upper/ Lower intake
              3.8 fuel rails / injectors
              " 4L60E OR T-5
Believe you will need new fuel lines
              Wiring harness
              transmission cross brace?
              motor mounts?
              K-member?

there's more but im at work, and theres actually work to do.

How dose the coust reach a few grand? Iv'e found this motor pulled from wrecked cars for 500 bucks. I think it bolts up to my tranny, the only thing I would need is the wireing harniss, computer, and fans. I think it could be done for less than a grand. A lot less if I can find a wrecked car with everything I need. But I'm just baceing all my knoledge off of google, that's why I'm posting it here for a second opinion.

And I think it's more like 40 horce power, not to mention I would have a motor that can handel a little boost if I want to do that later down the line.

k bud, first of all don't diss the 3.4 its a strong engine that can handle boost.

second of all, you should look into the 3400 top end swap, it has been proven to boost hp up to and possibly beyond a stock 3.8

it would be way less expensive.

unless you have a donor car, it'll be more than 1k easily. ask anyone who's done a swap, it sounds easy, but you wind up getting nickel and dimed to death.

why not just sell your car and buy a 3.8 or v8 car?

current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

Bacause I like my body style better than the 96 and up's, and I like my car enough that I would rather fix up this one than get a different one, plus I got my car for $3600 and I could probably sell it for about 2500. I'm gonna look into the 3400 top end. If that gave me the power of a 3800 would I get the upgradeability of one too? Bacause most people say just don't mess with 3.4's.
