Did you try a 70/30 mixture of dexcool and water?

if your radiator cap is bad it will not allow pressure to build in the system so the boiling point is lowered so it will boil at like 200. and yea um 70 30 or atleast 50 50 mix is MANDATORY like i said bring it to a shop before you blow a head gasket and your really in ****. also the bleeder should shoot out coolant NOT STEAM!!!!!!change the cap and try again this time bleeding until COOLANT comes out qnd with the right mixture
cant wait till my lt1 and nitrous.

i tried the cap off of my 97 camaro and it didnt help. they take the same caps right? same engine. maybe it already has a blown head gasket.

mine just blows steam out constantly after the car warms up. this isnt normal? it'll shoot weak shots of water out too. but the steam is steady and loud sounds like you're pumping a tire up.

keep filling it with coolant/water if all you are getting is steam coming out the bleeder.. also be sure and fill the coolant reservoir. its the black cap to the left of your battery. keep filling it all the way up until it almost overflows and let the bleeder push all the steam out it wants... whenever you see water/coolant coming out the bleeder, then tighten it back down... sounds to me like you just have a lot of air in your system. but it also seems like you dont really know exactly what youre doing (no offense). Try having someone help you if you know anyone that can. In the second picture you posted, the bleeder valve on the left is for A/C, leave that one alone. The one on the right is for the coolant system, this is the one you need to bleed. Hope this helps..

Re: quick question.. is this the bleed valve?

BUT! If it's already in your coolant system, you're supposed to use it or a dexcool compatible coolant. Don't just go buy any coolant you feel like unless you've completely flushed out the dexcool from your system. Sounds to me like you have a **** load of air in your system. Fill up the radiator with coolant and start the car with the cap off. This way, once all that coolant gets sucked into the block, you can add more. Once it's filled, put the cap back on. Make sure the cap is on right! The arrow saying RC-124 (or something like that) should be pointing towards the nose of the car. Once the cap is on right, fill up the coolant reservoir on the passenger's side of the engine bay. Once you're done with that, your car should be at the right temperature to start bleeding the system (if it isn't, just wait until it is). Open up the bleeder screw until you hear hissing/see steam. Leave it open until you get a steady flow of coolant coming out. If it's still steaming, there's still air in the system. Air doesn't transfer heat nearly as well as water or coolant does, so your car will over heat if it has air in the system! Like I said, once you have a STEADY flow (not little spurts) of coolant, you can close your bleeder valve. I'd then go back and check the coolant level, just to be safe (Warning!! Do not do this right after you run the car! Wait for the system to de-pressurize or else you will need medical attention for severe 3rd degrees burns! I'd wait at least 2hrs, just to be safe). Follow those instructions and you should have an air free coolant system in no-time.

Re: quick question.. is this the bleed valve?

i did what you said and it still overheated really bad.

i changed the thermostat about 3 months ago. cant remember the brand name but i got it at autozone. i just bought a new coolant temp sensor (the plastic melted on the old one). i put the radiator out of my 97 camaro in the firebird.. (camaro never overheats, its a good running car). so the radiator has to be good. i flushed the radiator with water before i put it in.

anyways..after the car overheated again today (this is all without driving it. i just have it parked. it overheats just siting still).. anyways.. after that happened. i let it set for like 20 minutes. then started it again and this time i put i turned my manual fan switch on..and it didnt overheat at all. stayed below 210 i believe. i dont know if that'll help when i'm driving it though.

..maybe i need to hook it up where the fan comes on when the car comes on. i dont know how to do that. i got the manual fan switch under the hood. i guess i'll try to find more wire and run it to the inside of the car. i'd stil rather hook it up where it comes on automatically.

Does your fan come on automatically when it reaches a certain temp? Sounds to me like you've got your fan switch wired wrong to where it doesn't come on automatically, just when you have it switched on. I'd atleast extend the wires into the cabin so you can control the fan while you're driving. Since the car's sitting still, no air's moving over the radiator. So, while the coolant is circulating, it doesn't have any air passing over it to dissipate the heat. So, it runs the hot coolant back into the motor and then it can't cool off the motor, and it over heats.

                        thats true

the fan does come on still. i have the manual switch wired up correctly. can anyone help me find a "how to" on how to wire it so both fans come on when the cars started? i might sell the car soon also.. and i dont wanna explain the manual fan switch to someone... i'd rather it just come on by itself. i know on my 87 mustang gt...the fan comes on automatically when you start it. so thats basically what i wanna do.

and yea it comes on when it reaches a certain temp. not sure about the high temp fan though

YOU changed the thermostat 3 months ago, NOW you are trying to find out how to bleed the system. How did you bleed it when you changed the thermostat?:twak:

is the overflow bottle suppose to leak underneath the battery?

i noticed it was leaking around the tube that goes down into the black bottle. so i took the bottle out of my camaro and put it in the firebird
