Wow, didnt even know we had them that low.
Automatic V8's came with them in their rear axles, which mean we can swap them into our cars

Exactly, and Firebirds were not designed to be ultra high fuel mileage type vehicles. Maybe I should have said Prius/Hybrid...:stp:

Easy killer! There wont be any Hybrids in my driveway! Between what you and Smoke said, I will prolly go with 3.08.

Cool, then you're gonna do a complete rear end swap right? Great, I want the 3.42's and lsd !!!
I'm still betting you don't improve over 2mpg, on gears alone. And its a pita!
Change out those 0/2 sensors and see what gives...

Ok, Ive done alot of reading up, and now there is now way in hell Im giving up my 3.42 or LSD. Sorry to give up your hopes on a trade. OOPS.

A whole lot of Seafoaming is coming tomorrow!

My plan so far is to Seafoam, do the normal tune up, Deep Creep EGR, install CAI and possible !CAT.

Did Seafoam today, smoked like we hit Hiroshima! Runs smoother, dont know about mileage yet.

Re: Fuel Mileage... How do I restore-improve?

                      1. Can someone tell me if I can clean the O2 sensors?

Im thinking yes since they are not throwing codes (malfunction). Just to clean off the carbon and help them read better. And ultimatley improve MPG...

I was thinking today, after seeing all that crap come out the exhaust for the third time, Id imagine that the O2s have got to be pretty clogged up.

                      2. Where are all the O2s? I know the post CAT is just to tell the PCM that the CAT is all good. Where are the important ones?

                      3. Also, I seen smoke come from where the EGR is. Does that mean leak? Doesnt look like its coming from the EGR itself, but from the base of it. And will that affect economy?

Thought I'd post my issue here as it is also a problem with mpg.

                            2000 Camaro RS 3.8L V6/Auto Gears??

                            http://groups.msn.com/TheJMBrooksFam...oto&PhotoID=25

I recently purchased this car, it has 85K miles. It's in fantastic condition and runs and drives perfect.

The problem, my first tank of gas = 17mpg. The second = 18mpg.

I have a 15 mile drive to work 7.5 highway/7.5 city. I don't have a lead foot and really tried to take it easy on the second tank. This is totaly unacceptable.

One of the main reasons I got this car was because of the good fuel economy. I havn't dug too far into it yet. I pulled one of the spark plugs, it was a fairly new looking Autolight Platinum.

Any advise on how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't clean O2's. Just replace them, I would replace them with AC Delco replacements if you do replace them. Our cars dont seem to like the Bosch ones from Autozone. Or at least my LT1 doesn't

If your car is a TRUE SLP RS your rear gears are 3.42 (correct me if im wrong.) If not you have 3.08. Personally platinum plugs are a wasted of money. Changed your plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, check your MAF screen for obstructions. You can also clean your MAF with electrical contact cleaner, just don't touch the wires. Change your O2 sensors, their life span is only 30k-50k miles.

Re: Fuel Mileage... How do I restore-improve?

I don't know if it's an SLP, how do you tell?

I already got a K&N air filter, going to replace the fuel filter today or tomorrow.

Guess I'll plan on plugs, wires and O2 sensor also. I'm skeptical that this will give me an increase of 6 -8 mpg

Seems to me the engine would run like crap if it was running that rich.

                                Thanks
