OK, some time in 2004 I replaced the spark plugs with Bosh Platinum 4 plugs. Now the guy at the "zone" tells me that this 3.8 V6 engine runs only with iridium plugs and with platinum plugs it'll run really bad....
OK... I read that these cars came with iridium plugs from the factory so now I'm curious ... I bought the $7 plugs and will install this weekend incl. new wires.....
marketing hype or will it really run better with $7 plugs (NGK TR55-XI) ???
im pretty sure the reason they come from the factory with iridium plugs is for the extended life of the plugs. i know for sure you need at least double platinum (meaning both points) because of the hotter spark created by the factory ignition. anything less than double platinum will burn the plug up in a short time.
let us know how it turns out :D
foggy headlights? wetsand... buff... WAX!!! if nissan motorsports is nismo does that mean honda motorsports is homo?

So, it's been running really bad for 3+ years and you haven't noticed?:slap:
Zone workers get paid min wage AND they're ASE certified right?:poke:
QFT what CamaroJeff said about the plugs though.
2002 Navy Blue Metallic Blue Firebird A4
Pure stock (Hey, just bought it 11/07)

We've had a ignition problem (misfiring) in 2004, I replaced the wires because some were burnt. Did the plugs at the same time (Bosch). I don't remember what plugs were installed, I do remember they were all the same (I expected the dealer changed only 5).... anyways...... a few months later a coil crapped out, replaced all three with cheap GPsorensen stuff from Advanced Auto, then in 2005 the module went south.... again I bought GPsorensen and had to get that replaced in 2006 and 2007 and two weeks ago....it seems the module lasts only 1year max.... I don't think the plugs have anything to do with this.... huh ???

My understanding when I looked into it was that the irridiums do better than many other types. But the reason they do better isn't the material, that only extends their life, it's the fine points possible. The data I was reading was that the fine points have some small effect.
That said, I doubt it'd be a major difference unless maybe turbo/super/nitro'd out and you're looking to make sure they fire properly.
NGK TR55 for n/a. Period. Its 25 bucks for a set of 8 - you can't beat that. Don't waste money on platinums... you simply don't need them. Even with F/I cars. I know TR60 is the plug for N20. For wires, any will do, but Taylor 8.2mm seem to be the favorite.
Don't EVER listen to guys at Autozone. They know nothing about cars. They don't need to, they are just a parts shop. There is no requirements for getting a job that that involves cars. Figure out exactly what you need first - then go. Trust me, it'll save a headache.

Well.... I installed new wires and plugs today. The car runs really good now.
The old plugs are Autolite Platinums and they don't look too good..... I'm guessing they're about 30000 miles old... two wires didn't look too good either, a little burnt at the boots....
If these plugs last longer, let's say 50000 miles it's definately worth the money.... changing plugs on these cars is not fun....
Autolites are the cheapest thing Napa carries. What kind did you end up getting?
I removed the 30K miles old Autolites and installed the NGK TR55Xi plugs... I didn't even know I installed Autolites, thought I bought Bosch last time I changed the plugs... oh well... at least it's running good now with the new plugs.
Hey everyone! I've been trying to remove my transmission for two days now! I need to replace the clutch. Only thing I've got left holding the transmission...
Hello, so I changed the front bearings on the bird and the ABS inoperative light came on. I made a mistake of not removing negative battery cable. Now...
I usually have to double, triple my headlight switch for them to come up on my 97 Firebird. I cleaned all connections. Could it be the headlight switch...
