  • Weird noise when AC is OFF??

ok for some reason when ever my AC is OFF i get this weird noise comeing from the engine bay. It sounds like some type of clutch spining? but it only does this whn the AC is OFF so i don't understand what it could be. has this ever happened to anyone else? Dose anyone know what it is? i haven't looked closely at anything yet tho I'm about to go check it out but any help would be great. thanks.

A/C clutch maybe? Just replaced my entire a/c system because of the a/c clutch. If you pop the hood you should easily be able to tell if it's coming from around the a/c compressor, if so it's probably that clutch.

^not always. The air gap could be wrong on the hub allowing it to contact the clutch while off. Or it could simply be the alt, water pump, PS pump, idler, tentioner ect ect ect. It could literaely be anything. Remove the belt and start the car. Make sure the noise is then gone. Then spin all the pullies by hand untill you find one that makes noise.

My A/C worked perfectly fine. The clutch just made a lot of noise. I dealt with it for about a year, but then it got really bad to where you could hear it over my exhaust when driving. Finally took it somewhere and they said the a/c clutch was bad. When it first started going bad, it only did with the a/c off. Just pop the hood and see where the noise is coming from. Let us know what you find.

I took mine to a shop and told them what it was doing. I figured it was my A/C clutch from reading other posts on here and that's what they said it was. Take it somewhere that has an A/C tech and see what they tell you.

the condensor is in front of the radiator. The clutch is part of the compressor. Have the entire compressor changed.

the pully when the ac is off tends to put out a high pitch kinda rattle.. its annoying. overtime that little aluminum part that doesnt spin with the pully when the ac is off tends to loosen up and chatter.
