I am at a loss . I have a 97 Firebird with new fuel filter, air filter, plug wires, plugs ,egr, fuel pressure tested , and no code reading . This started about six months ago . Unless it is pretty cold outside the car will not start on less than the third try, and now it seems to be getting worse every once in a while it takes four trys . Any ideas ? I have already replaced the battery, and if I do not solve this soon I know I will be replacing the starter as well . Thanks

Re: Cranks on third try !
Yes the engine turns just fine ,but will not fire untill the third try no matter how long you spin the engine on the first two try's . ?? Also two of the three coil packs have been replaced. Replacing the third one this week .

Re: Cranks on third try !
i had a problem similar, though it would crank about on the second time normally
i had to get my fuel pump replaced along with a tune..
the car had been sitting in a garage for about 2 years prior to this(i was third owner)
upon getting my pump replaced, started up immediately

Re: Cranks on third try !
maybe your fuel pump is weak, mine is and start at the third crank, when you turn the ingnition on, you hear the pump, then stops(2-3 secs), in the second crank try a little bit more, just to activate again the pump relay, you'll hear it again and stopping, maybe slowing down(mine do), then, in the third crank, the pump build the neccesary pressure to fire the engine and starts nicely:) that is the way i start my car in the morning lol, in the rest of the day i did'nt need to do that to start my car ;)

Re: Cranks on third try !
maybe put it into accessory 3 times before you try to turn the starter? so the pump can build up the necessary pressure?
just my .02... i always let the fuel pump whine for its 3 seconds before i crank it
