• Battery/Alternator Nightmare....HELP!!!

Please help me! My car is starting to sh!t the bed  .

Here goes the time line of events.
Timeline

Last Month: Replaced Battery
Last Week: Car started overheating while stopped. Fan motor bad. I replaced it. Flushed and filled the cooling system.
Friday: Voltage guage in car in the red. Recharged the battery overnight.
Saturday: Car started fine. Drove to work. Left work 8 hrs later. Voltage low again. Suspecting alternator. Recharged overnigh again.
Sunday: Drove to NAPA. Alternator under a liftime warranty. Took it out of the car and they tested it. They said it was bad. Replaced it at the store. Drove away. Guage still read low.  . Went to Wal-Mart and had them test the battery, tested bad, got new one, put in car. Drove away, guage still low. Used a battery tester, reads DEAD    WTF!!!

Guy at NAPA said the alternator was damaged by the battery being bad, because I told him I just replaced the battery last month. So when the battery that I had to replace last month went bad, it damaged my original alternator. Then when I put the new battery in last month, that was damaged by the altenator being bad from the first battery. Then when I got the new alternator today, the battery that I bought last month was already bad, and it damaged the new alternator. Then when I went to Wal-Mart and bought the new battery today, it was immediately damaged by the new alternator which was bad from the old battery.
    Very confusing .
So I have a brand new alternator and a brand new battery that won't hold a charge??????????? Maybe if I go get both a new alternator and battery at the same time, they both will work?
I don't have a stereo system to drain in either.

    Please help??????????????

Thats Bull****, no way the bad battery killed a new alternator within the day, if affect it at all. Youve got a problem, but its not that. Id check all wires from the alternator to the batery and to the rest of the electrical system, something isnt right.

I'm gonna go trying to figure this one out . My car has been nothing but one problem after another lately :( . I'm starting to consider selling it  .

You're probably right about the alternator not going bad in one day. But if I have a new alternator and battery, and all connections are ok, then what could it be? We'll see if the battery holds charge today?

      Any one else? Help Please?

I'm almost sure it's your wiring. Take it to a GM Dealer and have it done right IF you can't find it yourself. It may cost you a bit more at a GM Dealer, but your problems will be diagnosed and fixed correctly.

yes get the batt and the alt at the same time. what happens is the delco cs130 and cs130d(which is what is in ours, 97 and up 97 and down have cs130)were not designed to charge a dead battery, these alts were designed to cycle on for 10 sec then off for 10 sec to cool off. when the batt is dead the alt will not cycle off and cool down so it "burns" up and dies. so the guy at NAPA is correct, and even with a lifetime warrenty Rayloc will NOT warrenty them.
ps by the way I used to work at a NAPA and I know the warrenties pretty good, try taking it to a differnet NAPA and Do not tell them about the dead battery problem otherwise they will not warrenty it
