Re: can you put a ford v8 engine in a firebird?

You would have to do an older smallblock ford.

You "might" be able to get a 4.6L or "modular" motor in. but it would be alot of work, then you get into the headache of tuning.

BUT, I do think putting in a nicely built ford small block with a good amount of power in is a great idea. I honestly really thought it out on my old 3.4L.

Yes mod for mod the ls1 is a better motor... but you can buy, build up the ford 5.0(one of the most moddable for cheap motors out there).

****, you can build a 400-500 5.0, and get an aftermarket new transmission for the cost of what you can get "just" an ls1, forget all the other supporting mods and a transmission(which will be another $1200)

dizzy will be on the front, solves the ****ty engine cowl problems. Go with a Carb setup or standalong fuel system to avoid electrical/sensor nightmares.

I don't care if its "sacraledge" but I wouldn't mind having a nice 400-500 hp ford motor that sounds sweet in my f-body.

Its better then spending $2-3k in mods and still not break 300 hp with my v6, and be afraid to push my car hard because the tranny is made of glass.

here is a nice little built small block FORD, guy drives it routinely too and from orlando to Tampa to race...

here he is on pump gas and low boost beating shane with high boost and race fuel.

yes and before people talk **** about his crappy times/launching... this is a street car, driven out to the meets consistantly, and drives all over FL, for races. Not a trailer queen, purpose built race car. and he calls his car the Supra slayer.

Re: can you put a ford v8 engine in a firebird?

The Expididtion 5.4 is a three-valve motor and the Intech 5.4 in the Lincoln's are 32 valve. The 5.4 and 4.6 come in both variations.

And for the record, I just dissasembled a 5.0HO, and the bay is a little wider than my 3rd gen Fbody (bigger then the 4th gens). The LS1 doesn't look near as cramped in the foxbody as it does a 4th gen Fbody.

Funnest car I ever built was an '86 LX notchback foxbod with a 355/th400. Ran 11.8x on the motor and 10.33 best on juice. It used the stock Ford 8.5" rear and it held up nicely.

To those saying something is wron with Ford motors, the only thing I have noticed is they are more expensive, but can be just as powerful. Ford is known for putting too small of a tranny behind their motors, but with mods they hold.

        currently the longest lasting vehicles I have had was a '78 F250 w/350m (400ci) - just over 300k miles, '86 GMC 1500 w/4.3 - 289k miles, and my current work truck is a '98 F150 4.6 -192k miles. I just sold a 2002 Navigator and also have a V10 Excursion (both only 7x,xxx miles).

Psssht. My wife's cousing just finished his twin turbo 347. It will take a 750cc bike without flinching and keeps up with 1000's.

Untuned it runs a low 7 1/8th, well over 100mph.

5.0 mustangs are some of the best budget racers out there... forget swapping a ford motor... you could sell your firebird and pick up a fox body stang in decent condition and have cash left over to start a build

of course i would much rather have a LS1 camaro in my garage :)
EDIT: wow i didnt see your list of cars you own... youre way ahead of me

foxbodys are starting to get a little pricey. If you had an f-body shell I could see the want in putting a small block ford in it. Have a nice modern looking car, with the power/ease/reliability of oldschool tech.

Yeah. Cammed LSx, ftmfw. Thing is, that one sounds like it has a tuning issue or something. It doesn't sound right.
