  • car sometimes doesn't turn over....

Well I know most of the common things that people will say is wrong are right. I will try to explain.

I have a 1994 chevy camaro which I bought used in 2000. When I bought it, it has the security light on soild and the key that I have is just a standard copy. It is the only key that I have. For a long time it starts the car fine and no problems until recently. I will try to explain.

My security light stays on solid. Never goes away, never flashes, never does anything different. Just always has stayed on. Also my key has always been the same, non-gm key.

Latley, when I go to start my car, I can turn the key fine, except all I hear is a clicking at the starter, until I remove the key and jam it back in, and sometimes it starts, othertimes I have to re-jam it in.

I am curious as to things to try and fix this. I have been told by my dad to just go get another key made and try that (as his problem with his astro van) to go to the dealer (which I don't want to do) to anything else. The only idea I have of my light staying on is.....I have the wrong key.

Please help me, I'd like to take care of all my minor problems while I can.

    Thanks,
    Chris

If you get a clicking at the starter, you probably have a starter/alternator/wires/battery issue. You wouldn't even get a click if you were locked out by the pcm. If you are using a non-GM key, then somebody rigged something in there to force it to work. I'd fix it. You can get a new ignition switch and key from your local dealer.

good points but do you know how much a pass-key II ignition cylinder and key cost? plus some pcm tweaking to the specs of the new switch...

The clicking sound sounds like a bad battery to me. I'd just get that checked first.
