  • No Thermo....

Today i changed a 180 stat in my Camaro, when i was going to take off the stock one, but WTF? There was NO thermo in there!

Could this of have had affected my car in a bad way?

A car without a thermo may not warm up completly, and it might confuse the computer to run really rich as long as one isn't in place. Remember that most engine wear occurs on cold starts before an engine warms up.

well it acutally did have a thermo in there, but like half of it. It had the outer frame but it didnt have all the guts in the middle, so the coolant flowed right through like nothing.

I taught the 160 stat was going to be an improvement, not the needle actually leaves the little line at the bottom :(

Maybe this explains why i had no heat in the winter?

yea i bought a 180 thermo for my car and i think 180 was what came stock i dunno not sure, but the guy at autozone wouldnt let me order the 160 cuz he said would try to flow too much coolant that my car couldnt handle cuz it was stock or something... should i just spend $15 and get a 160 or just stick with one i have since my car isnt quite stock anymore

180 comes stock in our cars. You could put a 160 in yours, but if your looking for any performance gains you won't really notice the difference.

i got a 160... needle stays flat except in traffic, warms up just fine... no diff really at the strip so i don't really think it's that great of a mod anyway but might as well get a 160 if you're goin to the pains..

It will heat up completely, it'll just take longer to do it.

and it might confuse the computer to run really rich as long as one isn't in place.
It will run in closed loop for a longer period, until it reaches normal operating temp.

Remember that most engine wear occurs on cold starts before an engine warms up.
Most engine wear occurs at start up because the oil in is the bottom of the pan, no oil causes friction and thus causing damage until oil is pumped to the top of the engine. Thats why it is recommended to warm up your car only 20 - 30 seconds in the morning instead of 5 minutes. ;)

Definitely not all of them did:) Mine was 195 plain as day, and many others too.
