Any one else think this a unfair?

So the other day I was trying to start my car, but it wouldn't start and my security light was blinking. So, I kept trying for about 30 minutes to no avail. I ended up having to call a tow truck and take it to a local shop to have it checked out. The shop tells me that it's my ignition cylinder assembly and that the two security wires have come off. So, they fixed the problem by replacing the assembly, and cutting me a new key. They charged me $284!!!!
Parts: cylinder assembly - $99, key - $32
Labor: Remove and install new cylinder - $101.25, pull codes from computer - $33.75.
Supply - $10.64

Now does anyone else think that they over charged me?

That seems about right...you get to the lock cylinder you have to disassembly your column. I've heard it's hell to do so...

You could have done a VATS bypass to get her running...

$130 for labor is reasonable - assuming it took 1/2hour to diagnose and 1hr to R&R the lock.... I'd be a little pissed about the $33 for deleting the codes, AutoZone does this at no charge :rant:

be thankful that key only cost you $32....when I had to get a key here, cause the original owner lost one...its cost me $200 just for the key, then another 10 to cut it :rant:

^damn that's expensive for a key!!! I was pissed about the $33 to delete the code when I can do that at home. So y'all think that was a pretty fair price?

I just had a new key made at the dealer, they had to order it, and it cost me $26. So the price for a VATS key is fair. Individually the prices seem ok, depending on what the rates are in the area.
As a lump sum... $300 is a b!tch to pay for two wires falling off...:rant:

I would have pulled the radio fuse and tried to key it up 3 times - the locks will unlock and the hatch will pop. That disables the key FOB. Helped me when I lost mine since I have a screwy security system.

Thats why I never let ANYONE do work to ANY of my cars without thoroughly explaining to me what they're doing. Then I will use my judgment to see if its something best left to a pro.
