  • BRAKES!!!!

I need help. I have been waiting to get my car for over two years now and finally after putting in two straight 21 hour days working on it to get it to a car show i got it done. I started it up, rolled it off of the frame rack and i had no brakes!!! There was plenty of fluid i checked that first and the brake system was never opened so it doesnt need to be bled. I need help figuring out the problem. When the car is running there is a constant "sucking" noise coming from the cowl inside the car, near the brake pedal area. Also when i push the brakes and release it sounds like a "turbo." When i push it in It gives a sucking in noise then when i release it gives a whoosing noise. WHAT IS MY PROBLEM???

I almost forgot...When i pump the brakes i get a little stopping power out of them but no where near enough to take her on the road. Also the pedal is VERY hard. It is almost difficult to push down with one foot. I have my guess as to what i think it is but i will wait until i get some more advice before revealing it.

did you bend a steel brake line(the lines coming off the fluid resevoir)?....is there a busted brake line? are your vacuum lines hooked up to your brake booster?...just a few things to start with

The whooshing/sucking noise makes me think you have a vacuum leak at your brake booster.

I was so tired after my days of extremely hard work that i may have missed something, but i checked the brake lines and none seemed bent or crimped at all and there was no fluid leaking out anywhere so i dont think that any are busted. I figured at first that it was a vacuum line but the half connected to the booster was on. Maybe i am missing something though. Is there more then one vacuum line on the booster that i am not seeing? Also is it possible that the vacuum line is cut somewhere allowing air in? How does the line run once it leaves the booster?

open the hood and listen where it's hissing.. most likely it's between booster and engine... be careful around the pulleys.

            I'm 99% sure it's vaacum leak somewhere.
            How's your idle?

The idle is very lopey like i have a bad *** cam in it. That is the first reason i suspected a vacuum leak. at first i never thought about it because the gas in it is over two years old,( Yes i dumped in some seafoam) but the more i thought about it the more i realized it is prolly the vacuum leak causing the rough idle. Where is the best place to look for the hissing and how hard is it to change the line for a new one.
