  • Why is my car smoking?

White smoke coming out of tail pipes...usually happen about 2 or 3 minutes after starting and lasts no more than 10 minutes. It is a white, almost oderless smoke (although you CAN smell it, but barely)...looks alot like exhaust on a really cold day.

The inside of my exhaust tips are wet when this happens.

The smoke IS NOT constant...it comes out in puffs. The engine sounds normal and is running perfectly smooth.

Is this just a sign of aging?

BTW, I know it ISNT oil burning...it hasnt rained lately, and it hasnt been doing this for more than a few weeks although it seems to be slowly getting worse.

    TIA
    Adam

Check the coolant just to be on the safe side. Oh nad also check the oil to make sure there is no water in the oil and look into the TB to make sure no water is in there also. Good Luck!

I 2nd this. Coolant could be leaking thru the cylinder head gasket or a crack in the head or block. A compression test could isolate the problem cylinder. Check ur oil to see if it's milky.

What is probably happening is that you are getting alittle bit of oil threw your rings and it is buring up which causes the smoke it isnt a huge problem but it will only get worse with time i had the same problem and i was told that it was a common problem with gm engines

Had this problem once on a 2.2l engine. There was a minute crack in one of the spark plug bosses that allowed coolant to seep into a cylinder. I eventually figured it out when the crack enlarged and I had coolant spitting out of a spark plug boot.
