sorry to post this here all but I need to know b4 I fix this on my girlfriends car. She has a 93 ford tempo that she says is starting to sputter and backfire. She said that the check engen light comes on but then goes right off. She said that it has a heavy smell of gas. I'm thinking that its the fuel filter myself. But what could the other possablys be?

check each and every one of the spark plug wires to see if their arking anywhere.
Its best to do this at night so you can see if there are any sparks shooting out. -

Hey thanks for the replay, We did change the plugs and wires not to long ago. But you still think that may be it?
