(1994 3.4 V6)
I've checked all other threads I could find for this problem, but they don't fit what I have - I'm not running rich, the gas cap is nice and tight, I have no SES lightup and the smell is definitely from under the hood, not from the rear of the car. Exhaust emissions were checked recently and were right down the bottom of the scale in all tests.
I've had this smell for a while now and have not been able to track it down; my MPG is about 17 (UK; about 14 US) which seems far too low to me.
The smell's quite strong from outside the car once I've parked up, at the front around the hood area, and noticeable inside the car when the engine's running and I'm stopped at a junction with the ventilation on.
I know the fume canister is at the back behind the wheel arch so I'm assuming it's not that (or is this a symptom when it's clogged up?); but there is no evidence whatsoever of fuel leakage from anywhere under the hood (sticky tracks near the injectors or the fuel lines) and nothing dripping from under the car so I'm stuck. Short of sticking my head under the hood and lighting up the trusty Zippo and seeing what catches fire, any clues as to how to get to the bottom of this?
Thanx
