I have replaced egr valve, pcv valve, fuel filter, plugs&wires. I did this due 2 previous error codes I had. Now I am having hp loss under load. Took it back to autozone. I now have the code for random cylinder misfire and p1406 EGR pintle posistion was 10% of the expected posistion. The guy at autozone was an f-body guy and said he had similar problem and suggested bringing in the coil packs and ignition control module for testing because they have a tendancy to become cracked and let moisture in. Anyone heard of this? The car is drivable just very poor take-off and acceleration. I am waiting for my buddy who owns a car lot to go to auction this coming week w/me another vehicle. Once that happens I can park the camaro and remove those parts and get em tested.

Re: 95 v6 3.8 auto problems under load.........
Yes it is a problem with our cars. I have replaced 2 of the coil pacs on my 1996. if you are getting a random misfire I would say that you have more than one bad. They are not that bad to buy and replace. The one that is in the back is kinda a pain but... that is what we deal with to own a Camaro... good luck let us know how it turns out.Remember that sometimes, silence is the best answer.<br />Warren White<br />1996 PoloGreen Coup <a href=\"http://vampyr.settanni.net/\" target=\"_blank\">http://vampyr.settanni.net/</a> <br />\"Jealousy\"<br /> CTFBA member of the month Sept 03

Re: 95 v6 3.8 auto problems under load.........
yes more than likely it's a coil, OR you had a bad wire and when you changed the plugs and wires you weren't careful about the routing of the wires and more than one is burnt and is now shorting out, good way to check that one is pop the hood at dusk run the car and see if you can see an arc somewhere.
Problems with testing the coils is that often times they test out fine but once they are under load and warm up they start faulting out. I have also had the water problem.
Also bad plugs and or wires over time will run a coil so you could have done damage driving the car for a while with a bad wire.
The best way I know to check for coils is to have a scanner handy swap coils and see if the misfire moves.
Depending on mileage the EGR may be bad, I'm fighting a random EGR light myself after taking it off and cleaning it the SES went from all the time to part of the time. I'm waiting on a used one to swap and see if that helps.
Bottom line your misfire could be from wires, coils or the controller the coils mount to. I'm unsure on the testing of that though. Luckily the misfire problems I had in the past (knock on wood) went no further than a bad coil.
Hope this helps some, it is really frustrating to deal with, especially without something of your own to scan, reset and monitor the codes.
On the EGR check the connection, on a 95 you may have corrosion or a wiring issue besides the EGR itself.-Brad

Re: 95 v6 3.8 auto problems under load.........
Well I had replaced the egr valve already unless I got a bum one from the zone. I've also checked for loose or corroded connections on the egr, none there. Also new plugs and wires already but I'll try looking for an arc tonight. By the way anyone know where I can get a picture of the engine bay of a 95 3.4 v-6 monte carlo z34. I need it w/the part descriptions. Or point me towards a good forum for those cars?
