I was just wondering about the timing chain on our cars and what their reputation is like. I have a 1997 3.8 camaro with 142K on her (most are highway miles) and my dad suggested I ask about the timing chain since I'm getting up there in the miles.

I haven't noticed any issues with the vehicle, but would changing the timing chain be advisable since I'm gettin up there in the miles, or not really necessary yet? Thanks for any info.

    Re: timing chain

it would be a good idea to change it along with the tensioner with that many miles. Just preventive maintenance really. Better safe than sorry.

If you're tight on cash and can't afford both, then just get a tensioner.
