  • car stops reving when at WOT

so i havent really beat on my car at all since the conversion, make sure everything was ok and worn in. but tonight i decided to...i still dont like the idea of dumping the clutch, so i started off from a very slow roll and then stomped it to the floor, but my car got to about 3k and stopped reving - it just completely lost all power. this only happens when i really nail it, i can slowly(well not slowly, but slower) rev it past 3k just fine.

i did search and possible things are:

the electronic throttle - but i think i would have problems in all rpm ranges if it was that.

fuel system - i just changed the fuel filter, but in another thread was the mentioning of a clogged cat.... which sounds pretty plausible to me. to my knowledge the cat is the same thats been on the car for 140k miles, bout time for a change. my exhaust tone does seem to be different..

    thoughts?

Could this be related to our rev limiters when the car isn't in gear?

try to floor it out of the hole. or at least push it a little bit. you kinda have to see if it just at those rpms.

if you need help...i have no problem beating the **** out of her for you:wavey:

He's talking about on the auto. It has a lower setpoint on the rev limiter, if you're in park or neutral.

i had my pcm set to be tuned for a 5 speed...wouldnt that remove it?

No, my car is a 5 speed. The manuals have a lower rev limiter as well when they are not in gear.

Mine doesn't I can push her all the way up to 6 grand and listen to her purr without moving an inch out of the driveway :)

I'm going to go with clogged cat as well. Let it warm up, go for a spirited drive, then pull over and look underneath at the cat (if you can). If it's glowing, it's bad.

Weird... Maybe something changed between 1997 and 2000. Actually, let me run out right now and try something. brb

Ok, just tried it. Regardless of slow revving or slamming it to the floor, it cuts me off before hitting 4500 RPM. Still, it's not 3000.

Fuel pump. When you get to higher rpms you need more gas, if the fuel pump can't deliver you get a lean condition, and if it is extremely lean the engine will lose power. Usually it will come back when the rpms go back down.

there are no electrical connections that would even tell the car what gear your car us in anyway.
                              i say it's a fuel problem
