I have an '02 Firebird w/40,000 rounds on it, and the left headlight motor continues to spin after it closes the door completely. It does stop after about 10 - 15 seconds. This just started a couple days ago. Is there an end/stop switch on these motors or linkages that can be adjusted or replaced???? Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, dreams?
i just put mine in 2 days ago and problem solved my old gears had a hole in it so it was making a crazy noise trust me the brass gears are much stronger
I'm not sure that dirrerent (brass) gears will stop it from spinning after the door is closed, or will it??? It's like if there was absolutely nothing in the way, the door would turn all-the-way-around (wouldn't that be a cool trick?)HMMM?
just didn't seem that would be it, cuz it opens fine, and stops (no noise), and closes fine, but spinns at end of travel closing, & stops spinnin' after a few seconds. I thought it was switch related.
yea mines doing that right now also.. i was gonna try the free fix but got down to taking off all the crap and then couldnt figure out a way to get the motor to come out. so got so mad and put it all back together, most annoying thing ever

From what I have had explained to me, the motor does not operate via any kind of conventional switch that stops the motor. The resistance of the gear stopping trips a relay that stops the motor. When the gear is stripped, it places no resistance on the motor hence it continues to run until it shuts itself off. This may not be the best explanation, but...reader's digest version...its the gear that causes it to work...or not work. :D
dafirebird, I had the exact problem you're now having, and here is how I fixed it. I went to Brent Franker's Website, and first I did the free fix, which lasted about 1 month. Luckily, this gave me enough time so that when it started grinding again, I had the brass gear ready to install. If you have any install questions, or anything like that.
