First: Welcome to the board.
Second: As someone mentioned, check out the timeslip page
Third: Read back through the kill stories. 95% of them are wins by V6 Camaros & Firebirds.
And finally, This thread is being transferred to General Tech, where they can give you advice on simple modifications which can extract the most potential out of your upcoming 3.8L Engine.

yes they can be, they are not blazingly fast stock, but still faster than most of the cars youll enconter. Stock I ran between 15.9-16.5 now I run 15.6-15.8, ive got a few new mods that I havent tested yet. But overall yes the car is "fast" but it all depends on what you gauge it upon. Compared to a ws6 or SS we dont amount to much, unless you one of the few 12 sec guys here hehe.1998 Firebird 3.8, A4
Mods: Alum Ds, Yank TC 2800 stall, Rksport lid, FTRA, SLP air temp sensor, K&N, Flowmaster catback 2.5\" w/cutout, 3:42 gears w/LSD
Best E/T: 15.6 @ 86 mph (w/o gears / lsd or verter)
Best 60: 2.234
www.teamfoxfire.iwarp.com -- club site
To come?: l67 piston package hardened, turbo? spray? low 12\'s? well see

with I/E/C mods I manage to pull 14.7 @ 95.5 mph on my car. This is with open diffy and 3.23 gear running on stock 215s GAs. ;)00\' NBM Firebird~T-5
60\': 2.29 sec.
1/4: 14.7 @ 95.5 MPH
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for me.

my 97 3.8 firebird is an auto and i have no problem peeling out and doin all that fun stuff.
it's fast enough for me, especially since the insurance is so much, i pay 2200 a year just for liability, that's for a 20 year old with 4 points. wow nj sucksmcG
aim=endlive
97 firebird ~ wrecked

well, there's more potential from a 3.8 then a 3.4. So since you want a camaro, of course try to get the biggest engine you can. Our 3.8L market is just starting to broaden, and from what I've heard there's more 3.8 aftermarket parts then 3.4. Oh, and my auto does peel out when I floor it from a dead stop. Check out my car at the link in my sig.

HAHA! I pay 1300 every 6 months, for full coverage and a 500 dollar deductable. But I have no points.

I'd say that 3.8L f-bodies are pretty quick. The 3.8L motor is built extremely well. If you take care of it it will last a long time. I think that a couple of guys with nitrous on here spray with 100,000 miles on their cars.
Think about it this way, we can hang around with V8 Mustangs and Camaros from 15 years ago (stock for stock). They are a little faster, but it does not take much for us to be as fast as they are stock.Whisper Lid/K&N Intake, NOS 5175 Kit w/ Polished Bottle, Moser 3.42\'s w/ Auburn LSD, SLP Ram Air H.O. Hood, Pacesetter Ceramic Coat Headers-3\" in/out hi-flo cat, 3\" I-pipe, Edelbrock Muffler, Boyd Coddington Smoothie Two\'s

keep in mind that his insurance is not on his firebird either, which makes all the more sense he doesn't pay more.
