I read somewhere that the mean time to failure (MTF)is three years. Of course that means that some won't last three years and some will last longer than three years. Time to failure depends upon a number of things: how well constructed the individual battery is, the stress (high temperatures, significant vibration, heavy drain)that the battery has been exposed to, the condition of the alternator and other components of the electrical system.

Usually, when I've had a battery completely die out on me, it's been in the winter, the first one after the fourth year. They were all replacement batteries.

I'm starting the fifth year on my OEM '98 battery. But I'm not through the winter yet...

When I was working the counter @ AZ, we had a rash o dead batteries last winter. Majority were 95-97 luminas I wouldn/t trust any oem battery over 4.5 yrs old.

My OE battery lasted 5 years and 62000 miles.

Replaced it with an Optima red top, nice battery :D

I just replaced mine this winter and my car is a 96 so you figure it was installed in the car in mid to late 95 or early 96 to 2002 not to shabby.
