Question on mechanics response to fuel pressure problem

Just wondered what you guys had to say about this.

I took my car back to the mechanic that put my fuel pump in back in March and he sais that it is normal for the pump to bleed 5 to 10 PSI of pressure after it sits.

I agree with this but is it normal to go from 40 to 28 PSI after a total of 5 minutes from turning the key. The pressure went low enough that the car would not start until I turned the key off then turned it back on.

I never really paid attention to the pressure while having the ignition on and sitting but I never remember noticing the pressure dropping and I have never had problems starting the car after the ignition has been on for awile.

The running pressure seems low also, about 36 PSI warm and 40 cold.

28psi is not normal. i don't think the car would run like that.

mine is 47 to 51 at idle/start/cruise....always.
it goes up when FMU is kicked in from boost.

I have stock fuel pump.

"48-55 psi (ignition ON)
3-10 psi loss at idle" is from our engine tech specs page.

The car might run at 38 psi but not 28 psi.

too bad you don't have an access hole cut in the trunk or you could check for leaks.

I used a cut off wheel on my air compressor but you could also use a cut off wheel on a 3/8 drill.
