Last night i went to the dragstrip, my car feels good, and lays rubber extremely easy:burn:, is a '94 3.4 camaro with auto trans, i done a few runs very constant in 16.9 range at 66 mph, the car has a good 60 foot time but when it hits around 4000 - 4500 RPM starts to die, my best was 16.741 @ 72.60 MPH with 2.173 60 foot whitout the air cleaner, i need to make more power past 4000 RPM, i've changed spark plugs, fuel filter and oil, i forgot to mention that the car struggles to start when is off about 1 hour or more, when i start it in the morning, i need to crank it about 3 times before it starts, well, what it could be? any ideas? any help or comments would be appreciated, thanks.

Get a V8, or some Nitrous...

The 3.4L does not have much up at the top end. Without some sort of power adder (Nitrous, turbo, etc) you are not going to get much after 4500 RPM. I own one and it is a great car, but it is not a speed demon.

As for the starting issue maybe you should check the fuel pressure.

      Re: TooSlow

How many miles does it have? As far as i can tell those cars don't do to well anyways at the strip.

If you have some money laying around do the obvious. Start with a full tune up - i.e. New Wires, fuel filter, rear diff. fluid change, radiator flush, tranny flush, and a new hi-flow cat. Then move on to the bolt ons, Pacesetter headers, CAI, Aluminum driveshaft, and 3.42 gears an a posi.

Then move on to a cam, maybe some new rockers with springs an retainers and injectors, push rod also port an polish your throttle body, replace all the seals while you in there.... An while your at it, a 255 fuel pump, 125 shot of nos, and a set of drag radials.. and remove your rear seats, jack an spare tire, an all the insulation, and carpet.

You might be looking at a 14 second slip

        Re: TooSlow

given your trap speed, youre nowhere near running right. you should be trapping a hell of alot higher than 66 and 72, more in the low 80s.

finkle, its a well known fact that anything more than a 75 shot on a stock 3.4 is pushing it since theres not much in the way of tuning.

i will do the full tune up, also a new fuel pump, and maybe a new timing chain, by the way, i was checking the timeslips, and no one has a time around 16.9 @ 66 MPH, i mean, 66 MPH is too slow even for low 17s. i think that something is wrong with my car, i've seen 3.4s hit 75 - 80 MPH in the 1/4.

          and my best...

I was thinking the same thing!~? My 3.8 was all over the upper 80's area..... but honestly, when I saw that, I gave up on performance for my V6. I'm not dumping $10k in a car to run 13's....

Ending up selling it and buying a car that does low 14's stock lol

well, i need to replace the weak stock fuel pump, and is a good time to upgrade it, anyone knows how hard is to install a walbro 255 fuel pump?, it just replace of the stock one, or i need to make any fabrication or something, do i need to tune my ECU/PCM for this pump? or change fuel pressure regulator, etc.etc...

I have no clue if your car has it but maybe an IAT sensor. I forgot to plug mine in a time or so and it would die at high RPM...

                        no tuning needed.

install.... 2 ways to do it, drop the exhaust/rear/tank or cut a access panel thru the trunk.

i have all sensors plugged well, every time i open the hood i take a look for unplugged sensors, bad wires, levels, etc. etc. but thanks anyway:)

cut access pannel sounds easier, i have grinder/dremel, power tools, basic tools and bunch of sockets, what else do i need? when i took it off the car just put it in the place of the stock one?

I meant the IAT sensor itself. I was just saying I had the same symptoms when it was unplugged. Maybe you should try unplugging and see if symptoms change.

Ive seen MAF sensors do this in other cars as well.

The next time I go to the dragstrip, i will try plugging and unplugging sensors, maybe putting different resistor values in the IAT, etc.:stp: but the stock and weak fuel pump definitely have to go to the trash!, maybe in 2 weeks i'll order a brand new Walbro 255, but i have no idea how long it takes to get it here where i live in mexico, have you? but thanks for taking a little bit of your time:)
