  • very wierd happening...

this all happened about 15 minutes ago. and keep in mind i just installed a powerdyne S/C on my car. ok so i floored the car, and once it got to the top of the RPM's it cut out while still running, i got the "reduced engine power" light, and pressing the gas pedal did nothing at all, there was absolutely 0 throttle response. i had to idle into someones driveway. i popped the hood to check if anything obvious happened like vacuum tube blew off or the tensioner gave out and the belt was flopping around. everything looked fine, so then i went back to my car and fired it up, and everything worked like normal.

this is really weird and ive never heard anything like this happening. you think the PCM "paniced" or something and shut down? scary :(

I think he means, dont floor it until you tune it or bad things could happen.
Just take it easy until its tuned.

Sounds like you found "ABUSE MODE" in the PCM and it shut you down.

i got ya. i thought you could run it without a tune and be fine, just a tune helps get more horses out of FI. im getting HP tuners and a wideband so until that day ill take it easy on her.

a couple more symptoms too that ive noticed. my throttle response is delayed at times, and when i first fire the car up it revs up to 2k RPM's and slowly drops back down to normal idle RPM's. any ideas?

Might still have a vacuum leak. Can you get the IAC count from a scanner?

you don't have a vacuum leak. You have a 99 car and you are getting the MAF code that needs to be changed in your PCM. Very common with FI 99 cars. You max out the table in the PCM and it will be fine. Same thing happened with my brothers car when I was testing it out after I finished installing the sc. Just takes you turning the car off and then starting it up again. Scared the crap out of me the first time it did it. I limped into a parking lot and was like "ah crap".

It will be P1514 code once you scan it. ;)

Under the drivers dash to the right. A Very low IAC count means vacuum leak.

yeah that makes sense. i remember hearing about that before. well im taking it to a local shop where a guy works on GTO's, F-bodies, Corvettes, ect. and i hear he knows his stuff. hopefully the car runs better after that.

so what about my high rev when i first fire the car up? and also delayed throttle response? vacuum leak? im gonna scan my car hopefully tomaro so ill be able to post the IAC count for ya bigbrian. what is considered "low"?
