Well, I know they were able to fit all that ish into a Camaro... so, my question is this: Do you think it would be possible to fit a ZL1 engine in a Firebird? Oh, and for all you people who think you can't find the ZL1 block, here it is: http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Chev.../12370850.html
Thanks in advance for any help.
Are you talking about the recent ZL-1 car that was in the magazines? Cause that wasn't a big block, it was an worked LS1/6 small block. I have seen big blocks in 4 gen's before but it required alot of work, including massaging fenders and firewall. Plus a lot of custom equipment.
the early zl-1 camaro's were alluminum big blocks that were 502's. The new one they came out with was one of the one's that ligenfelter performance has been working on that is a 427(420 with smaller bore). Get your facts straight before you post things please.
The ZL1 actually dates back to the 1st gens. Very rare RPO, not many were made, it packed a 427cube V8 and was the rarest of 1st-gen COPO's. John Moss of General Motors went on to create a ZL1 prototype car based on a 4th-gen Camaro, w/a 572cube Rat motor under the hood. The most recent ZL1 from GM is yet another 'toy' car, w/an LS6 under the hood making around 400hp.

First, there are two recent ZL-1 cars produced. One by Chevy, which is the black one producing ~770hp that we've all seen. This one indeed does have a big block engine. Another, as I assume the one you're referring to, is made by a whole other group of people (forgot who) and doesn't pack near the power of the concept ZL-1 Chevy made. If I remember correctly, ~440hp.
My mistake! I do remember seeing that black one now. Didn't realize it was a ZL1. I was talking about the other one, the one with the worked LS6. It is said to make 400hp/410lb-ft, with a six speed and 4.10:1 gears.
I do know that the bored out 502 that was put together a few years ago required alot of metal work to fit. Not to mention all the custom injection and ignition stuff to go along with it. Big bucks!!

69' ZL1 was a 427, talk about getting your facts straight. The recent black 4th gen camaro dubbed "ZL1" has a 572 c.u. Donavan Alum. big block.
Yup, it's a shame Chevy never made any production models of their ZL-1. IMHO they should have made a limited number of them, maybe 1000 or so. It would be tight to see some 770hp stock Camaro's cruising around!
From what I read, their main purpose of their ZL-1 was an internal competition with Ford to produce the fastest NA street legal car. Unfortunately the Mustang Boss Ford came up with beat the ZL-1 with a 9.4L 900 somethin hp. Supposedly the Boss ran a 1.9s 0-60, although that does seem pretty damn far-fetched, and the fact I also read that spec off a Mustang-oriented site may question it's reliability (so don't go flaming me for that fact if it's wrong, I just read it, never said it was true!)
Ok, to clear up my original post, I was indeed talking about the Black Camaro ZL1. The concept one. Found here: http://www.supercars.net/cars/2000@$...20Concept.html
