Check your key because the security light will come on if your key's chip is worn down. Someone with a diagnostic computer could figure it out though. I dont think it was wet. I will check to see if it is worndown at all. It stayed on no longer than 2-3 minutes, and that was the only time it did it today.What\'s her last name? I think, besides Seafoam, this topic has been discussed more than anything.. seriously I did a search in general tech for "security" and found 52 (yes, 52) topics. But since I dont want to be a total *** , heres what I said in another thread a couple months back.

This happened to me, I ended up having to spend ~300 bucks for a new ignition cylinder and have a new key cut. Some will say there is simpily a wire that has been worn to the point of breaking, and it only starts because the motion of turning the key connects them and can be fixed by sodering(in my case, I don't see how this could have been the problem, considering in the beginning I would have trouble starting almost routinely only once a month, and after that it would be no problem.. I'd think if wires were severed it would happen more often..but I could be wrong). My mechanic also said this wasn't the problem and at least I think he's trustworthy.<hr></blockquote>

ignition cylinder, get a new one and a new set of keys. You can get one for $55 from a dealer and $35 for each key. My car would not start and SECURITY would come on. take it to an alarm place, for like 20 bux they can put somthing in that just disables the "chip check" thing. Its what they use for remote start systems

Changing the lock cylinder is a real project.
Mine went bad last year.
Everything worked fine, except the key would not turn or come out once it was in.
It would only go from "RUN" to "START".

I will never have that problem again. I just went around it. And yes you still need a key to start the car, just in case any would be thiefs are out there.Comment
