  • Stupid Question - Y87?

Alright, I hate starting useless threads, but I've been looking for an answer to this for the past couple of days.

Before coming to this board, I had no idea there was a Y87 performance package. My question would be how do you tell whether or not you have the package? I've got disc brakes all around, and she leaves nice two-wheel burnouts, but other than that I don't know how to tell.

Also, I'm Anthony, and I'm from the Danbury (CT) / Poughkeepsie (NY) area. I drive a Hunter Green 96 Camaro, and this board freaking owns. If there's anyone out there in my area, hit me up.

Check your RPO codes, either on your door or in your glovebox. If you see Y87 listed, you've got it. If it's not there, then you don't have it. ;)

You should have the RPO code on the Service label in the glove box, as ONLY Y87 V6 cars had disc brakes in the rear in 96.

Easy enough, I checked, and much to my delight, it does have the Y87 package. I guess this means I don't have to invest in gears / posi right now. Thanks!

What all comes with the y87 package? When did they start it 2000 and up 3.8's? Do you get a higher gear? Limited slip differencial? Dual outlet exhaust... What all do you get with the y87 package?
            Thanks, Shane

I'll save you the time of digging through...

in a nut shell for automatics...

upgrade from 3.08 to 3.42 gears and added a LSD

Those are RPO codes GU6 and G80 if you wanna dbl check to see if you got those.

For the manual it's still 3.23s but you get an LSD.

THe only other important thing is you get the Z28 sterring ratio (less turns of the wheel)...it's 14.4:1 if I remember right.

Oh yea and 235 tires and a dual outlet muffler

                :D

I do challenge you. Next time maybe you should read a persons bio before replying.

And if you THINK there are flaws in the Tech Database - email me.
