Re: Project finished, doesn't look good.

so theoretically, say i get the rockers adjusted properly and put everything back together properly.

What will a compression test show me?

considering there will still be a small amount of "milkshake oil' left in the oil, should i just change the oil and filter within a few hundred miles?

will there be any adverse effects from any of this in the long run?

The compression test will show you the valves are adjusted right and if you have a blown head gasket.

I would change the oil again after an hour or so of running good, just to be safe.

If everything turns out OK, it shouldn't effect the long run.

Once back together and running correctly you will need several oil changes to get rid of all of the coolant in the oil. As bigbrian442 stated, run it and then change the oil. Then run it some more and check the oil. If it is still milky, change it again. Repeat this process until it looks like oil again.

ok thanks guys, i'm gonna take the LIM off today, now heres the catch.... if i don't find milkshake oil all over or around the LIM gasket then i can be safe to assume that i have a blown head gasket correct? To be honest, i don't know how coolant could mix with the oil if it was just leaking from the LIM gasket, i'm leaning towards blown head gasket because wouldn't it just be a small leak from the LIM? i mean it leaked ALL the coolant into the oil.....

let me know what you think.

you took everything apart to add new rocker arms?

Incorrect. If the LIM gasket failed, you won't necessarily find it covered with broken down oil. What you'll be looking for is warping of the gasket, or a tear/gap in the gasket
To be honest, i don't know how coolant could mix with the oil if it was just leaking from the LIM gasket,
It can because there are oil and coolant passages running within close proximity to each other

              No, not necessarily

This does not sound like a blown head gasket to me.

I can't disprove your theory but can tell you when I rebuilt the top end of my motor that had 115k on it after about 3k miles I blew out the bottom end. My dad told me it would happen with the change in compression from worn out to new again and I didn't listen and then it blew and I had milkshake also. I replaced the whole motor after that.

well, heres the scoop, i just took out the LIM, there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the gasket, as in no rips or warpage. There was some oil and coolant mix on the top of the cam valley and on the lifters etc.

is there any way i can find out if it's a head gasket leak before i put it all back together again? i'm only a few steps away from getting the heads out of there.

                    thanx

Do a compression test. Make sure you have the spark and the fuel pump disabled. You may see coolant shoot everywhere just from cranking it while the plugs are still in it, with the intake off, But make sure you have the fuel pump and the spark disabled.

Keep in mind that you cannot do the compression test until you properly adjust the valves. If you did not adjust the rocker arms correctly then your compression test will not be accurate.

He could , but that would show him what cylinder(s) are out of adjustment.

so you can do a comp test with the car as it is right now? just take out the plugs and disconnect the fuel pump? could i just take out the fuse for the fuel pump?

Yes on all accounts. Make sure the fuel and spark are disabled before doing the compression test.
