Can anyone tell me what this means? I think it's a tranny code because I usually get a hard 1-2 shift with it. Help is appreciated.

Transgo makes a repair kit for this exact problem. Easy install, and it only costs like $50. it replaces the crappy stock pwm valve with a new redesigned one. I installed it about 3000 miles ago, and haven't had the problem again. I'll try to find the part # and link for you.1997 Y87 Camaro with a motor and some stuff.

Found it. I bought it from this guy: KDS Performance. He's easy to deal with, and I got the part pretty quick. I think his price is like $49.00 plus shipping. This is definately what you need. I had the same problem. Drove fine until the tranny warmed up, then I got a neck-snapping shift into 2nd. The kit fixed it.1997 Y87 Camaro with a motor and some stuff.

Better get on that fast... I had that problem, mine was under warranty so I took it in. They said that it was the same code and problem, but as I put it off, other stuff broke cause of the shock by that hard shift. Started as a hard shift, then it started to make some noise. When they pulled the pan they said that bearings had become bad somewhere and the tailshaft was messed up. And there was chunks, not shavings, but chunks of metal in the pan. So after all this, they sprang for a new tranny... Anyways, sorry to ramble on, but everytime it shifts it puts a shock through the system. Good luck.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. The tech at Actron wrote back to me and explained that P1870 is GM-specific and means "Transmission Component Slipping." He went on to explain that it can be caused by stop-and-go driving, hot driving conditions or pulling a heavy load and suggested I get something called a T-tech service. I installed the TransGo kit just as this problem started happening a while ago and I thought it would solve the problem, but no luck. I have to wonder about the hot driving condition idea and the connection to my SLP CAI scoop in front of the radiator. Maybe the loss of cooling air to the tranny cooler section of the radiator is causing the problem. Maybe an external cooler is not a bad idea. I wonder if anyone else has had the problem after installing this kind of CAI system.180 Thermo, K&N Filter, Transgo stage 2, Pacesetters, Magnaflow cat, Flowmaster Catback, 3.42 LSD, Hotchkis LCA/Panhard, Bilstein, Eibach Pro, 1LE bars, SP crossdrilled/slotted rotors.<br /><br />Vortech Project 1.0 failed.<br />Vortech Project 2.0 in the works
