  • Tach mounting

OK, So i'm the dude who bought 4 Drag'n tachs. I'm playing with one right now, and I like it. Haven't wired it yet, and haven't witnessed this "unique backlighting", but i'll get a report about those when I'm through.
The Tach (5") comes with a mounting ring (ring around the tach, screwin' base on the bottom). Trouble is, that the base for the ring is so big that it adds like 2" to the height of the tach, into my (6' tall) no-zone, where it's obstructin' the view. I played around with different moutning spots (A-pillar, a-pillar area, center of dash area), and i've settled on center of dash, above the vents / stereo, just over the edge of the dash, pointed to me.
My question: How can I mount the tach without the ring? It's not feasable to mount it with the ring unless I want to cut the dash or fab up something coming out from around teh vents (thought of that too).
    --Velcro?
--Build my own trim ring (now that I think about it, that's a damn good idea) from those metal strips with holes in them at home depot, and some screws? (I used to have one of these on my custom intake)
--Crack open the tach, drill a hole, have a bolt sticking out the bottom, and a nut from below the dash (damn that's a good idea tooo ... or at least get a bolt directly below the tach somehow attached to the tach and then nutted below the dash

Not too worried about drilling small (1/8-1/4") holes in the dash, but will not cut out a whole rectangle.

    Thanks in advance,
    -Rob
    P.S. -- I've got 3 of these tachs available. $31.50 each.

Would you consider mounting it somewhere else, like on the pillar? Here's where I put my 5" Autometer.
