Did the mileage drop happen all the sudden or has it gotten worse MPG over time?

I haven't consistently been keeping track of actual mileage. I never filled up the car, I just put in 20 bucks now and again when I was getting low. I started noticing I had to add 20 in more and more often though, so I figured out the mileage, and it was much lower than before, which is when I started replacing things to try and get it back..

It seems like the only thing that could effect the mileage this much would be the o2s, but they are less than 1500 miles old, and showed no improvement over the factory ones when I put them in.

I was looking at your tune you posted in the trans thread on the HPT board and there are lots of things that are different in the engine areas of that tune compared to the stock tune from my car. I'm thinking the tune you got from the repository wasn't stock and someone just plane screwed with it before they posted it there. Do you still have your stock PCM ? Might be worth a try to put that back in and see if the MPG comes back.

BTW I left you a PM on the HPT board.

well 20 bucks doesnt buy as much gas as it use to :)

but dam with all the mods i have on my car, i am getting 27mpg 97% hwy and that was with 3 top speed runs where i maxed out my speedo. Think i was going somewhere around 140.
And the car has 155k on it. Oh and i dont have an EGR

I'll try putting my stock PCM back in.

I put the stock PCM in and I've driven about 40 miles so far. I noticed quite the loss in power and shifts so maybe there were some things changed on the 97 PCM that increased performance while decreasing mileage..or maybe it's just TM. Anyway, the gas station attendant was a douche and a vette came up to me at a stoplight today and said my car smelled like gas like crazy from behind. I checked the gas cap and it was cross threaded and leaking. Damn oregon laws. So this next calculation will be corrupt.

It's like the New Jersey turnpike you can't pump your own gas.

Just to piss people like me off I suppose. I averaged 12MPG in 75 miles because of that a hole at the pump.

Big drive coming up tomorrow, all highway, I'll get the numbers up soon.

Looks like the tune was the problem. Got 24mpg 85% highway driving like a d-bag. Thanks for the input guys. bigbrian442, you have a PM over on the hptuners board.

No no no... the average person doesn't have the skills to operate a gas pump, thus the parental function of government to protect us from our own ineptitude. Don't you know? By God, it wasn't until 100 years ago that a fella named Ford finally convinced the government to allow people to drive, before that he was just making charcoal (later this became Kingsford, but that's a story for another day). Ford had to bribe them by setting up an industry of assembly line workers and paying the workers exorbitant amounts of money to show the government the public benefit of allowing his workers to drive to and from work. It's true! I read it on the internet!

Oh, wait... that's because I just read my own post...
