When I start my engine it makes this loud ticking noise and it does not go away as I drive. I've taken it to be fixed by the place that rebuilt it about 4 times now and obviously they have no idea what they are doing. I can't take it anywhere else so I figure I'll try fixing it myself, I can feel a pretty big power loss but the ride is still as smooth as it was before I rebuilt it. Any ideas on what I should look for?
oh yeah, it gets HORRIBLE gas mileage too

hrm. should have asked me bout this. the ticking is probably an exhaust leak. they are usually characterized by a loud ticking noise or the exhaust getting notably louder.
check your header bolts. if that doesnt help anything, take the car to an exhaust shop and have them check it out. if the exhaust is ok, then you will know its not that and you can move onto the engine -- this is yet another reason why i think Coast Motor Supply sucks a fat ****.
Well it could be a number of things. Do you think you could get a sound clip of it? that would help us help you a lot. Could be an exhaust leak like said above, a bad push rod, a bad bearing on the crank, even the injectors make a ticking sound on our cars though it is very light. Try and get sound clip for us. I'm sure with all the people here we can figure it out.
Also what was replaced on the rebuild? Was everything replaced ex the block? or was everything just taken off then put back on?

hehe, I showed you the noise Russ, and you mentioned it could be a bad pushrod...I gave the car back to Coast but if it still makes that noise I'll give up on them and get a sound clip of it, but if I do how would I upload it to the site??
Thanks,

well...Coast decided to take my roller rockers off without telling me until I asked them what they've been doing to my car, so I was so fed up I was like fine at least it'll work when it comes back and I'll just re-install my rockers later,but....my dad went to pick my car up when I was in NY...morons didn't adjust em right so the idle bounces between 2 rpms and it shuts off...sounds like they over tightened em right?(they wouldn't let me take it home....wonder why)

I dunno...any leak they prolly caused anyways...hehe my dad told him it was probably the rockers were too tight and the mechanic got all mad and screamed "yeah yeah yeah I know we fixed it already don't worry about it!"

I lied and said it came from GM...that shut em up

Do you have a sound card and a tape recorder or video camara
Edit: Did you pay them for the work to fix it? If so you might want to think about asking for it back
